dsuther Posted March 7, 2009 Report Share Posted March 7, 2009 I recently bought a Dell Optiplex GX240 with Win2000Professional installed.At boot-up, I am prompted to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, then a user-name and passwordscreen comes up. No. 27 says :-Windows Forum cannot and will not permit any post, topic or link on how to reset the Administrator password on any computer system. Whilst such a request may be perfectly legitimate there are times when discussions on this topic can be used for an illegitimate reason. Windows Forum does not have the ability to determine the validity of any request and therefore we cannot allow such discussion on this topic. The problem with W2000 is you must have the recovery disks for the MOBO and hardware as W2000 can never find the drivers and you will require broadband as there are about 65 updates at least.I think this computer can also run WXP you should upgrade. The GX240 is a rather old model; even my GX270 is rather oldish...You`re quite right,P.W.They are opening a new school here, and they had a "flea market" at the oldbuilding-- furniture, computers, shelving, lockers etc. for sale. My teen-aged son attended that school two years ago, and his usernameand password are still valid!! My problem now is that I "cannot log on because the domain SRSB(the school board)is not available.This computer was on a network at the school, of course.The other domain(name of school) is likewise not available.How do I tell this computer that it is now a "stand alone" unit??Thanks for any help;ds Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After you press Ctrl+Alt+Del you get a login panel. On there you should be able to select between the registered domain name, and a login to the local computer. I don't have a screenshot of that panel right now, but I am trying to find one.If for some reason you cannot select between the network domain login and the local computer, try to boot into Safe Mode and login to the local computer.
