K-Bly
I have a desktop connected to the internet over an ethernet cable. My desktop also has a wireless card in it, and I was wondering if it is possible to make the card broadcast a small wireless network around my apartment, so I could use internet on my laptop without having to plug it in. My desktop runs on XP, my laptop on Vista.
catgate
The easiest way is to use a mains network adapter. There are several now on the market. The link below is only one of the types available. They vary quite a lot in price. Ebay is awash with them. I got some for a friend and they work wonderfully well, and are simplicity to set up. Just plug and go. They would seem to be better from a security point of view too.http://buy.maplin.co.uk/Free_UK_Delivery/P...it_46494_v2.htm
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I think your post would be better off in our Networking Board; I am moving it over there.
homecomputeraid
I believe you'd want to set up Internet Connection Sharing on the XP machine and configure the XP and Vista Wireless cards to use an Ad-Hoc network. Be careful setting this up if you have neighbors close by though. I haven't set up security on such a configuration before.
