cliftonbazaar
I have 3 computers on my desk - 1*windows XP that I use, 1*Linux to learn and the third one is a live Windows 2003 web server. To move between these computers I use a 4 port KVM switch which works very well, I have had all this set up and working for about 6 months. Now I have installed MySQL on the windows server in order to run PHP; this I set up about 3 days ago. Now I have the annoying problem that the CPU on the server goes mad (and it sounds as though the hard drive is being written to) when I am working on a DIFFERANT computer. When I switch back to view the server the noise stops straight away, I switch back to my work computer and 2 minutes later the server will go mad again; the noise is so bad that I can't work. I've had this computer for over 2 years and it has never worked so hard in its life! How can I find out which programs are being run at any time?Yes I have stopped MySQL but that doesn't seem to be the problem. catgate
The syptoms suggest to me a hard drive problem looming.(edit:- so do the symptoms!)
cliftonbazaar
It doesn't sound like a crash coming (I've had one before) but all my stuff is backed up anyway :)I am currently turning of fast indexing as this may be the problem. Does anyone know of any other programs that run when the machine is idle?
