Windows Automatic Updates

Hello, dear Windows Forum support team.

My name is Daniel and I rescently found your forums via Google search. I am very glad I did found you and I am most hopeful that I will find a solution among people such as you with professional knowedge regarding Windows.

Here is my problem: I have an orginial copy of Windows and it is most legal. I am using Automatic Updates as a features since a while, but I have never experienced such a problem before.

Rescently, I have downloaded and installed a new anti-virus program - Windows Live OneCare. I am pretty satisfied with it, however, it does inform me when my computer is in need of critical windows updates.

Two days ago, my OneCare informed me that I am in need of a critical update called "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)".

I downloaded and manually installed the update. Later, Windows has started an automatic update and I found out that it is once again installing the "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)" and downloading it aswell. This same day, my OneCare again informed me that Windows is in need of critical updates, after which I checked the Windows web page and I found out that the same update requires download and installation.

Now, after two days, automatic updates and OneCare are constantly showing me that they are in need of this update and it is constantly being downloaded and installed by the Automatic Updates.

Please, tell me, how can I stop this update from being installed every time over and over again.

I will be very greatful if you provide me with a tip or a hint of how I could handle this situation.

It may be because the update installed is corrupt.

Try turning off automatic updates, then uninstall the update from "add and remove programs"

Now turn automatic updates back on again and let it download the file and reinstall it.

I have tried AlanHo's tip and it worked, so far it is not downloading and installing the update 24/7, it only did it once after I un-installed it and let Automatic Updates take care.
