catgate
I have here two computers. One is the machine I use everyday,( the one I am using to post this), and the other is one belonging to my garage friend. Both are on Ubuntu. The sound sytem on both is controlled by Alsamixer. The Alsamixer control panel information is puzzling. On this machine it says the Card is SIS S177012 and the Chip is Realtec ALC655, whilst my friends machine is said to have a Card which is HDA ATI SB and the Chip is Realtec ALC 662. However neither of them have a sound card in them, they are both running (*) on just the on board chip.It is very puzzling.I had sound problems with his machine when I put it together, and to get round them I did put a sound card in it (don't know what it was, other than one it was one bought off the 'net), and I took it out about three months ago because it failed. My machine has never had a card in it.Can anyone shed any light on this, please.(*) Or in his case not running!
catgate
Could it have anything to do with the fact that the south bridge looks nothing like "sur le pont" nor even Sir Charles Wheatstone.
