No you can't just take your hard drive from your old computer and put it into your other computer.

Did your other computer come with Vista?? if it did your MOBO might not have the drivers this is the problem

these days if you think your mobo has XP drivers on the recovery disk go ahead you will have todo A FULL FORMATE

ALL DATA WILL BE LOST and reinstall WXP or if you still have a problem use a W98 floppy fdisk and delete all None DOS partitions you could then create a dos partition make it active and reinstall WXP, you will have to convert later from FAT32 to NTFS.

It's up to you.

A point to remember WXP is now on extended support.
