shokan Posted April 21, 2009 Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 I recently did an install of XP Pro and I thought it was a complete wipe and full install. However, I see now that all the old programs are still in Program Files, but they have no path so I can open them. A few have an executable in app data so I can launch those programs (such as Photoshop), but many do not. And, there is no way to uninstall these orphaned apps. Any suggestions? -pops- Posted April 21, 2009 Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 Do they appear in Add/Remove?In Program Files, is "delete" available on a right mouse click?If you are confident about a regedit, you could try:# From a command line or from the Run line, run regedit. This opens the Registry Editor.# Select the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and follow the folder path \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.# Click on the + sign to expand the listing.# Look for the name of the program with the orphaned entry.# Delete the entire listing for the software with the orphaned entry, by highlighting it and pressing the Delete key.# Close the Registry. The orphaned entry will be gone. (From http://www.internetfixes.com/help_desk_winxp/winxp_33.htm)Before doing anything in the registry, make a full backup.Having stated all of that, what I would prefer to do (especially as it is a new install) would be to format and do a fresh install on the reformatted drive.
