Hi All

I am not a techie so please be gentle with me:

SERVICE PACK 3 INSTALL PROBLEM

I have a compag presario PC with 111gb free space.

I disconnected antivirus after scanning.

Windows XP.

I cannot install service pack 3 via auto updater.

It downloads ok but when I go to install this happens:

Window Pops Up:

"Setup cannot copy the file atapi.sys

Ensure the location specified below is correct,

or change it and instal 'Windows XP Systems File'

in the drive you specify"

(please see attached pics )

Now the atapi.sys files is in its correct folder

(and my cd does work)

It then goes onto say service pack not complete and rolls itself back.

Any would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Have you read this ?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884675

Do you have either

Alcohol 120%

or

DAEMON Tools

installed ?

Hi Boris

I did have Alcohol!

So I checked as per your suggested link, went to alcohol site/uninstall instructions

and discovered one item that I had not deleted.

Will start the service pack 3 update and see what happens.

Many thanks for your advice,

Much appreciated.

Will post the result later.
