Dencandy Posted April 27, 2009 Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 It's because it's in Standby (according to your screenshot) - RAM, CPU, etc are on waiting for you to do something. -pops- Posted May 3, 2009 Report Share Posted May 3, 2009 Modern computers have so many hidden things going on that is well nigh impossible for things like stand-by and hibernate to operate properly. The things I mean are, for example, auto checks of you anti-virus program, antispyware program(s), other non-essential items such as Adobe Reader, and loads of other things that think they are vital to the running of your machine.The only reliable way of stopping your computer is to shut it down. winchendon Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 yes, but standby is very useful for me if I'm in the middle of some homework with a lot of programs open and I have to go out for an hour or 2. Also I like think I have a handle on some of those hidden things it does such as checks of antivirus programs, and non essential stuff like adobe reader. I think its time to re-image my machine.BUT I lost my installation cd. (very rare because I'm anal and keep a tight ship)I know this is off topic but what should I do? email MS? just use a friends cd eith my current serial number? -pops- Posted May 6, 2009 Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 It is the license you buy with software, not the bit of plastic containing the code so, provided you have a product key and you are able to obtain a disk, it is perfectly OK to load from that.Note, though that the disk you use MUST be the same type to which the product key belongs - that is if the key is for Ultimate and the disk is Home then it may not work.
