ivtec Posted May 7, 2009 Report Share Posted May 7, 2009 Hi guys;how're you all.Ok i need some help i found this PC Compact Presario AMD Athlon XP 1700+ 6000 with 40g hard drive,1.46G,256MB of Ram with option of one more 256Mb slot,windows service Pack2, i found this on the dampster brought it home since i'm electronic student i checked it out and the only thing that was bad was the Fan in the power supply, i replaced it and started it and shows the COMPACT logo and stops and shows this on the screen, V02.00 <F10=Setup> if i press F10 it goes black and stays there when i turn on and off a couple time on the front switch it starts,although is very slow i have to delete a lot of stuff but i'm afraid to delete some that i shouldn't. also i don't have the recovery disk,where can i get it for free? any help would be apreciated. You want to delete stuff - use CCleaner.Run CHKDSK /F to make sure that your HD is OK.If you don't have a recovery disk, there may be a hidden recovery partition; check the Compaq website. You want to delete stuff - use CCleaner.Run CHKDSK /F to make sure that your HD is OK.If you don't have a recovery disk, there may be a hidden recovery partition; check the Compaq website.Thanks Pat , yes i can start up and run it after i push the power on and off and on again a few times in a row, some times two and some times more times, i was able to make it speedy a litle more by making restore point and detete some stuff and defragement and clean up, but there are errors like if i want to delete some stuff that i don't need it don't let me,i guess i need recovery,i don't have and i don't want to spend any money on this thing, strange is that this operating system only has C drive and normaly Compact normally has 2 drives C and D. also some times i can get in the bios i think is F8 settings, and there is there some function that let me save to a floppy diskette, is this what you're talking about the recovery partition ?if so how many foppy diskettes do i need and if 1.4mb 3.5 diskettes will be good.thanks in advance. May be worth using it to try out Linux.Ok guys i was able to repair my Presario 6000, with the windows Xp Boot repair,after so much hair pulling, but never gave up ,things that i did, sorry can.t explain better but i'm just trying to learn this difficult stuff, i downloaded for free the Win Boot CD and copied from the CD to 6 floppy diskettes,and then i put in #1 cd and powered up when i had the set up pressed F10 and all i had to do was to put in as up request diskette #2 -#6 and follow instructions, than i turned off PC and restarted and voila a clean start,anyway i want to appreciate to all that tried to help me thanks.
