homecomputeraid
I've been evaluating Web Filtering products to use at work and just came across an Open Source/Commercial product called Untangle. It has many features available for free. Some that a business would find very useful have a fee, but a very reasonable one in my opinion. The features included in the Open Source package include the following:Web Filter Spam BlockerPhish Blocker Protocol ControlVirus Blocker Spyware Blocker Attack BlockerUntangle ReportsFirewall OpenVPN Intrusion Prevention System Routing & QoS Here's a review:http://www.justechn.com/2008/08/13/review-...network-gatewayand another:http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/6452/1/Here's a description of the Open Source apps on Untangle's site:http://www.untangle.com/Open-Source-PackageI wondered how they could run so many applications real-time on Internet traffic without incurring too much latency. They use "Virtual Piplining Technology" to run traffic through several applications at almost the same time. Parallel processing instead of serial processing of the web taffic:http://blog.untangle.com/?p=44Ultimately, the proof that it works will be in installling it and running it. I've ordered a Dell Server and the Professional Package. I'll post how they work for us next week.

homecomputeraid
It's in and working. It's blocked a LOT of SPAM for us. So far, that's its most impressive feature to me.It does a lot of other network protection such as Antivirus and Antimalware too.It isn't always obvious which application within Untangle is blocking a particluar piece of network traffic. I have to do some research about how it handles attacks.Overall, very nice product!
