youngtrotsky
Hi, I recently installed SP3 through automatic updates and ever since have been unable to perform any tasks that require my windows CD since it asks me to insert my XP SP3 CD and I only have a SP2 CD, which doesn't work. I tried slipstreaming a SP3 CD using nLite but this isn't working either. Does anyone know a way around this other than reverting to SP2? Thanks. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum.I have never seen that - being asked for the Windows disk. Can you post a screen shot of that prompt? Also, is your system free of malware?
youngtrotsky
Welcome to the Windows Forum.I have never seen that - being asked for the Windows disk. Can you post a screen shot of that prompt? Also, is your system free of malware? The first screenshot shows what happens when I try running "sfc /scannow" in an attempt to get disk defragmenter working again. This request pops up regardless of whether I have my original SP2 cd or my slipstreamed SP3 cd in the drive, clicking retry just results in the same pop-up reappearing, clicking 'more information' results in the pop-up shown in the second screenshot. I have scanned with AVG, A-squared and Ad-Aware, none of which found anything more than a few tracking cookies and MRU lists.

youngtrotsky
You didn't mention sfc in your first post. What is wrong with the Windows defragger?Defragger isn't working on my main partition ("disk defragmenter ntfs module has encountered a problem") but I don't think that's related to the cd problem, which started before the defrag problem and is related to other things that require a windows cd (can't think of examples right now, sorry). I'm just completely baffled as to why windows would start asking for a SP3 cd when I installed SP3 without a cd...

Please insert the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD." But as I said before, my actual Windows disc doesn't work, in fact it doesn't even get a response at all. Very confused, don't suppose anyone really knows what's going on, I certainly don't...
