Weird Installed Xp

Installed WXp Prof Xp2 on W2k Prof SP4 PC. Found option at switch on ---Xp or 2k., ---running Xp if left.

All 2k programs still in C-Programs but not in Start-Programs or in "Set Prog Access and Defaults".

Decided to live withit and Loaded AVG free , checked Windows Firewall on and loaded ZoneAlarm free too.

Loaded B/band modem. Updater would not run Downloaded and saved SP3 elsewhere and it was rejected.

Now things have prettywell frozen/dead. I clearly went wrong somewhere. Could it have been the harddrive decision and/or security software conflicts later?

Did you install XP Pro on a separate partition, or separate hard drive ?

Or did you just install it onto the existing Win 2K partition ?

Only one hardrive and never ever partitioned unless accidentally somehow during installation of Xp

When you set up a dual boot you need to create a separate partition for the second O/S.

You have just overwritten the Win2K O/S with XP Pro - hence the problems you are experiencing - you now have 2 O/S in the same partition - a partially working XP Pro and a non-working Win 2K. The boot manager recognises traces of both O/S - hence the boot option.

The best thing you can do is reboot from a Windows CD, delete the existing partition competely, create 2 more new partitions, and do a fresh install of Win2K on one and XP Pro on the other.
