Installing XP

Recommended Posts

Hi

My daughter got a new laptop for Xmas. It came with Vista pre-installed but only has 512mb ram. this is causing the laptop to take an age to start up and run programs. I have got XP on my laptop, do you think I could use my master CD's to install XP on her laptop, thus, removing vista. Do you think that is possible.

OR

How can I get a list of start up programs printed so i can list them here and ask which programs are not needed to startup the laptop. I think there are far oo many programs starting up in the background causing a very slow start.

In short "No". The Microsoft Masters of the Universe have thought about these things and in order to maximise profit etc....

You could get them listed on your screen, and then do a screenshot and save it as a .jpg. That could then be added to a forum posting. Bearing in mind the jpg file size max is 200k for posting you may need to do it in B&W.

edit:- Alternatively you could upload a screen shot to Photobucket and post a link to it.

If you try to do as you state and replace Vista with XP (ignoring the legal aspects for a moment) what you will end up with, instead of a slow Vista machine, is a slow XP one.

The best thing would be to install more memory.

To check on startup programs, have a look at http://www.windowsstartup.com/download.php
