formatting problem with dual boot RHEL5

Recommended Posts

Hi,

For the past few years i am facing this strange problem. When ever i install RHEL 5 with dual boot windows XP .And some How i try to format my system. It doesn't format with windows Xp instead i use either windows Server 2003 or windows XP 64 bit.

But now after windows 64 bit installed a new problem arises i am unable to install windows XP. i got two HDD segate 250 and 160gb

Motherboard Dg965ry

processor C2duo 2.2ghx

ram 2 gb

What happens when i format my PC with the Windows XP it formats the partiions but after it restarts it continues with the setup

instead it should come up with the windows pre installation menus

I tried everything my deleted the partitions

but still faces the same problem

please help

What boot manager are you using?

What exactly is your system layout? (E.g. partition 1: primary partition, C:, Windows XP; partition 2: ...)

Regarding "windows pre installation menus"; do you have a hidden partition that contains preinstalled setup?

Boot manager which i was using before was grub.

but as i formatted my c drive it went off

Currently my system is like this

(Image attached)

Also u might be correct that there is a preinstalled setup hidden somewhere

as when i make my 160gb as ID 0

system dont boot.

Just to clarify:

  • you want to install Windows on your C: drive?
  • you will only have 1 Windows partition (therefore not needing a boot manager)?
  • you don't know if you have a hidden setup partition?

Do you have a rescue disk that can be used to reinstall Windows (from the rescue disk or hidden partition)?
