FURIFIED
Okay well recently I've been having some problems with what I thought was spyware, except I can't remove it. I'll list them out..1. When opening something the screen would flicker black.2. Internet Explorer would randomly open up pop-ups (still does) 3. My speakers will randomly play commercials for Lysol and other disinfectant/cleaning products. I try disconnecting my Internet and it still keeps playing. I have Norton, I did a full system scan and nothing popped up but the usual tracking cookie which it immediately removed. I have Windows Home 64xbit.I would gladly delete Internet Explorer but I can't because it's too integrated into Vista, obviously. This all started around when I upgraded it too. Is there a possible way I can downgrade it? IE also goes offline randomly too so I have to reconnect it before I can use the Internet, which is annoying. Thanks. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum.Try an alternative malware scan, e.g. with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall7/.When you say uprade/downgrade Internet Explorer, do you mean IE8? If so, see this post,
wide-load
Well, there are several approaches. You can go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Internet Explorer. Your system may revert to IE 7, on its own. If you have to reinstall IE 7, you can download it at http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details...;displaylang=enKnow that you aren't alone in your feelings about IE 8. Here is a link to another forum that speaks about the same issues.http://www.computerforum.com/133819-how-do...t-offtopic.htmlHowever having said all that it sounds like you might do some other checking before downgrading your browser. Norton checks for viruses and tracking cookies. It doesn't necessarily check for spyware and other nefarious software residing on your computer. You might do well to get software that does that specifically. Two popular (and free) programs that will do that are SpyBOt and Lavaware Ad-Aware. To find where to download them you can Google them. There are other spyware detection programs out there. Be CAUTIOUS tho, Some rogue programs are out there that claim to be anti spyware when in reality they are designed to entrap you in one way or another. If you use any other than the two I listed research them carefully. Get on a forum or get the advice and counsel of somebody in the know.FWIW
wide-load
I forgot to add. I heartily recommend Firefox browser over IE. I's smaller in footprint, less buggy and less security prone. If you want to try that Goggle Firefox download.
FURIFIED
To answer your questions, I've used Firefox for years, and found it to be at least two times faster and more efficient in every way possible. I never use Internet Explorer, or Exploder, in this case. I went to Programs and Features and Internet Explorer is not in there, to remove, so I assumed that for Vista you are unable to uninstall it. I'm still not sure how to uninstall it. : /I tried the Housecall Anti-Virus/Spyware/Malware, and it came back with nothing, but I'm also going to add that Norton is Anti-spyware and Anti-Virus so I wasn't really surprised. So I guess that leaves getting rid of Internet Explorer, I remember there being an add/remove program in XP, not in Vista. In XP under Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs you can find Internet Explorer 8 there.I use XP Pro, when I run Windows. I only use Windows occasionally. Most of the time I use Ubuntu. However I have my machines set for dual boot for the times that Windows is required

FURIFIED
Okay, I downgraded IE to 7, and I think that might've fixed the random averts popping up with IE, and the random going offline crisis, but those stupid adverts are still playing through my speaker. Out of curiosity, could this be my modem? When I got my new computer, my modem has gotten increasingly bad, as I disconnect over the period of, say, watching one video and torrenting is impossible.
