This is a story about a practice nurse at the local medical centre.

When new patients apply to be registered with the practice they are required to fill in a form giving full details about their health and family history, provide medical samples and be interviewed by the practice nurse.

A recent new patient responded to the question "Age of your father if still living" - by stating 107. To a similar question about his mother he put 104.

The practice nurse, after carrying out basic health checks, went over the form with the prospective patient and noted the great age stated for his parents.

She asked him - "are your parents really that old"

He said "No, but they would be if they were still living."
