For those having issues with your Internet running slow in IE8 you may be running too many add-ons. In IE go to 'tools' and 'manage add-ons' then disable/enable. Disabling any unnecessary add-ons may help you Internet run faster. Try disabling add-ons with more than a .2 sec load time.Hope this helps,FeranWelcome to WF. I don't understand what you are getting at. Why should MS have designed IE 8 to run slower than IE7, if you use the same add ons as you used in IE7? WhAt is the point in offering add ons if they cause problems? There are also other problems occuring with IE 8. MS still have to get back to me regarding this one, mentioned earlier in this topic. :DAn update: After installing the recommended Startup Inspector and CCleaner MS 8 did work much more quickly BUT...after about a half an hour it freezes and I have to use my task manager to shut down the browser. I can try disabling the add-ons (not sure what comes 'added on' automatically, but....) although I have switched back to Firefox for the time being. freddie2 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Report Share Posted July 2, 2009 But, the defraggler I downloaded and launched and after analyzing about 1/3 of my files were fragmented--300,000-something fragments in all. When I went to defragment, though, it just stayed at 0% for a couple of hours. I am going to try again today.:)Try shutting down all other programmes whilst you defrag. Some programmes which run in the background can cause the defragger to keep returning to the beginning after a short while, particularly security programmes.Dum...I never thought to turn of my AVG! When I tried Defraggler for the first time, it ran for 48 hours!So maybe my suggestion was not a very good one. Please try the free version of Diskeeper, called Diskeeper Lite. Version 7 can be found all over the Internet, but there is also a version 9, which can be downloaded for free from Intel. If you are interested, I can give you the link. (It is bundled with other software, and the download is very large!)Size...can be intimidating but I am willing to give it a go since everything that has been suggested here has worked really well. :) Yes, please, may I have the link?I never got around to trying the Defraggler again; I figured since I could finally put my cursor in the body of my web pages to edit I might as well...do some editing. But, I am ready now. Do you have to download the whole bundle?Maybe once I defrag the thousands of fragments in My Docs...IE8 will not freeze--who knows.
