installing IE8 without replacing old versions

Recommended Posts

To clarify, XP & most earlier versions of Windows have Internet Explorer as a a non-optional part of the operating system, so even if you have installed IE7 or IE8 Windows will revert back to the built-in version of IE (usually IE6) if they are uninstalled. So in your case, if you uninstall IE8 your computer should revert back to IE7; then if you uninstall that, it will revert back to IE6. Uninstalling IE7 & IE8 can be a pain, especially if you installed them before installing XP Service Pack 3 so I suggest you read THIS FROM MICROSOFT first.

As the previous post says, you can only have one of them available at any one time. But you can have another completely different browser (like Firefox or Opera) & even have it open alongside IE.

Have you had problems with IE7 or IE8? If so please post about them as I myself have had problems, especially in conjunction with Windows Live Mail.

hi,

the reason to have different versions is that I want to test websites. At the moment I've installed IE6 and IE7 and I can use both of them at the same time. I've probably found on internet some kind of package to do it.

I would like to add IE8 without losing the previous ones.

thanks

I do some website/browser compatibility testing for my son's business and we both have the same opinion: There is little or no point in putting a lot of effort into producing a new website to be usable on obsolete browsers (which IE6 & 7 are).

There is no cost involved in upgrading to the latest version of most, if not all, browsers and it should be reasonable to expect that prospective users would do so.
