maxh Posted August 20, 2009 Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 I have a funny situation, when i boot up to safe mode selection screen i can use the keyboard to select. but if i boot up to windows normally or in safe mode i cannot use the keyboard or mouse. the computer recognizes the new hardware and tries to install it. the install wizard comes up asking to search for drivers. i cant click or use the keyboard... windows xp Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Since you can only use the key/board/mouse in Safe Mode, start in safe Mode & then open Control Panel > Performance > System > Hardware > Device Manager. -pops- Posted August 20, 2009 Report Share Posted August 20, 2009 It seems to me that the Windows XP USB drivers have become corrupt - the BIOS in the machine has its own legacy USB drivers (hence being able to use it before Windows loads) but when Windows takes over the legacy drivers are overridden. Thus Windows tries to reload new drivers.Does your computer have PS/2 connectors for mouse and keyboard? If so, you may be able to borrow/beg a keyboard and mouse that will connect to those and investigate the problem further and possibly be able to reload anything missing.Other than that, I my only other suggestion is to try the Repair option via the Windows disk. If so, you may be able to borrow/beg a keyboard and mouse that will connect to those and investigate the problem further and possibly be able to reload anything missing.Other than that, I my only other suggestion is to try the Repair option via the Windows disk.no ps/2 ports...ok this is what happened, i had a virus on a computer, and i could not get rid of it so i hot swapped the drive into another computer scanned and removed the virus. upon reinstalling the drive and booting up windows now starts fine, but no keyboard and mouse..... so my question is can i hot swap again and manually install usb drivers?P.S. i tried to run windows recovery but it does not recognise my hard drive...Thank you!
