Lately i bought a Creative E-MU Tracker Pre USB audio soundcard, but somehow I think it is causing a lot of trouble to my system. Once in a while when I am running my audio sequencer Cubase LE 4, which should be compatible with 64-bit processing, Cubase suddenly crashes with this error report:

I've already tried using Windows debugger, but I can't figure out how to make it work with the .sym and so on.

By the way I chose to send back the soundcard, and I got it checked for errors, and as it returned, they told me everyting about it was fine, which I do not understand. According to what I've written in my post, I really hope some clever guy out there is able to help me from my misery.

It could be a memory problem..?

Other than that, I can only think of driver problems.

I could be wrong so you may want to see if someone else here can give you a better answer first.

Well I'm not really what you would call clever, (lazy may be), but I think I would try running without the suspect card for a significant amount of time just to confirm the suspicions. Then take the matter up with the supplier or manufacturer.

Unfortunately I've already tried running without the suspect card, in other words I used my brothers E-MU USB 0202, which seemed to run flawlessly on his Mac, but didn't perform quite well on my machine.

Therefore I do not think it has got something to do with my soundcard. Everything would be easier if it really was my soundcard that caused the trouble, but since I had some people to test it without errors, it might not be the soundcard that makes it crash.

Actually, I forgot to tell you that the Tracker Pre soundcard makes similar errors on my laptop, which is a 32-bit vista, and on my friends windows 7 64-bit computer too, so it must be a compatibility issue, or Cubase error maybe.

By the way my Cubase version is fully up to date.

Well, it's kind of hard to diagnose the problem really, unless you understand the error reports.

No I haven't made any topics in there yet, although you're right there are many topics which deals with compatibility problems while using an E-MU interface.

Perhaps i should try making the same post in the Steinberg forums, and while doing that, I still hope some of you guys will make replies at the same time, and thank you everyone so far. :D

A lot of the topics I read through suggest it be problems with VST's or something.

I don't know what they are but do you have any of them which you can disable and try without?

I don't use any VST's, but they are disabled since they probably mess things up.

Disabling VST's is also not the solution.

You mentioned Cubase was up to date, how about any drivers that Cubase uses?

Are you using Windows 7 and if so, is it 32 or 64 bit?

Yes i am using windows 7 64bit version, and i've been using the built in driver for the E-MU Tracker Pre, and before that an Asio4All v2.9 driver in Cubase. Both drivers didn't seem to work.

Even though my soundcard is compatible with vista 32 + 64-bit OS, it's been tested on both XP32bit, vista 32+64, and Windows 7 64-bit with similar error reports, in that way I can conclude it has not got something to do with Operating Systems in my case.

There is XP mode - it's an XP environment for Windows 7 so you can use programs which have not yet been upgraded for Windows 7 compatibility but work fine on XP.

According to Google searches, Cubase LE4 is only compatible with Vista and XP

It works properly in the device manager, and I guess if it didn't work the time I used windows XP, it might not make a difference using XP mode in W7, since it's more or less the same thing.

I also saw a few posts saying there can be incompatibility issues with Comodo software - Comodo Internet Security, Comodo Anti-virus, etc. Do you have any of these you can temporarily disable to try out then?

No I'm only using AVG Internet Security 8.5.
