Hub fo my Dell Inspirion Desk Top

Recommended Posts

Bought a hub yesterday in the city for my desk top.

It says on the front for Note Books but I was told this is also for Desk Tops.

It has small square box with 4 USB ports 2 each side of it.

This has to be connected with an plug to a power point.

Also a cable to connect it to my computer via USB point.

Before I do all this and maybe muck it up - is this the right one for me?

Not cheap - full cost $60 Au.

What I now have to do anyway is go buy a power board as I have no extra extensions - my two point are surge protected so I guess I only need a power board without surge protection?

Ok further to above re hub. I connected it and the lights for each port did not light up and the keyboard wouldn't work and what is worse it when the computer searched and found the new hardware - then put up searching for floppy and altered my Bios.

Disconnected it and took it back to the shop - and they gave me another of the same kind Logitech Premium 4 port hub to replace it.

Connected this and it works as long as I don't connect the keyboard to it and only 2 lights light up. I have the modem and mouse on those and the speakers on one that does not light up but as they work - well ok.

Shop said on asking - that I was to bring it back but they would not replace it as my computer must have a fault but would give me my money back. Only fault was that it wouldn't boot up straight away but kept going to black screen saying failure to find floppy and I had to manually boot it from boot up menu. Anyway I decided to keep the hub as it does work on 3 and frees up 2 ports. Plus 149 k's return journey to the city at $1.39 litre twice was eating up any return on the cost of it which is $60 Au.

Anyway meanwhile I still had problems booting up and remembered when first hub was being found by the computer it searched for floppy. Now I don't have a floppy on this computer only disc.

So checked the Bios against the manual and all looked on every page to be as the manual.

Still not booting up kept getting a message saying failed to find floppy so went to Dell forum - found a post saying same thing and telling me that the poster found his own solution in that the manual was wrong for saying 3.5 which indicated the floppy which is non existent. Typical of manuals today I reckon. Changed it back to None and it worked!

Also noticed another post saying to download new bios so did a new version.

I went to the site for Logitech and it wont work on email to contact local Australian as put up prices for the hub in Aussie dollars etc. Also no prudcut number to put in for support. Said look on lead but nothing there and nothing on the package I kept just in case.

BTW when I went to the Dell site it would not recognise my user name and password and they has changed log in system since I last went 2 yrs back and wont let me in saying someone is using my email address - so tried to register in my 'pen' name email I use for anonymity and guess what wouldn't let me in on that saying someone using that address also.

So could read posts but when tried to download stuff wouldn't let me.

Finally got the download by just going to the site straight instead of via support.

Only other place I have had this problem is M$ where years ago I gave up trying to get in after registering etc same thing.
