Hi

Using XP Pro and BT Hub router for internet connection. Have noticed that PC has steadily taking longer to start up (four minutes before internet ready).

I have defragged, reduced start-up auto loads using Ashampoo Win Optimiser4, and edited msconfig (as shown in Computer Active mag).

I presume that all the free downloads are trying to load on start up but cannot confirm this. Can anyone advise how I can speed up my start-up.

Something I found with one of my machines a few weeks ago was that the A/V program was carrying out a quick scan of the system as it started up. I hadn't asked it to do this but, it was doing it just the same.

I set it back to how it should be and now have my (reasonably) quick startup back.

You might also want to give a cleanup of the drive with Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ followed by a defragmentation. I (we) find Startup Inspector a good thing to sort out auto starting programs http://www.windowsstartup.com/ - safer than editing msconfig.

Thank you, I have found the inspector site and will download. I also use avg 8.5. Not sure how to reset it but I'll have a good look

Thanks again
