Updating vista to windows 7

Remember that Windows 7 is not yet available in its final version so it would be best to wait until October 22 and buy a full copy.

Having said that, my granddaughter has been looking at the RC version of W7 and has upgraded XP to the later version with a few programs not successfully transferring - but the install does tell you that. Vista may be more compatible.

Whatever you do, though, make sure you have a full backup or clone of your current setup before doing anything irreversible.

The things that didn't transfer were drivers for an auxiliary IDE/PCI card (bit of an unusual one in any case) and two printers but fortunately, W7 had its own drivers so that all that was lost were some of the printing addons.

It was the same with XP to Vista upgrade and I expect better compatibility XP to W7.

There is an upgrade advisor which will help on this:
