Posted September 30, 2009 Report Share Posted September 30, 2009 Well i got a new laptop a few months ago with vista HP installed with 1GB RAM and 2.16GHzand when i went to the shop i had a look at some of the computer games and found i needed double the ram for some of my favorite games just because i have Vista! lucky for me i have a windows xp disc that i haven't used (Just in case i needed it :D ) so should i switch my OS to XP? because im not really sure what to do with RAM sticks :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted September 30, 2009 Report Share Posted September 30, 2009 I think for some modern games XP will struggle on 1GB of RAM.You would be better, I think, buying more RAM. If you buy direct from Crucial you can be sure of getting the correct sticks for your machine and they also provide fitting instructions. Other suppliers may do the same.Remember also that XP is becoming obsolescent with the imminent introduction of Window 7 so if you do proceed with your intended retrograde step, you will be two versions behind the current Windows come October 22. Hb_Kai Posted September 30, 2009 Report Share Posted September 30, 2009 Whereas most games on Windows XP require a minimum of 512MB, 1GB is the recommended memory requirement for most games.This kind of choice really depends on how much of a gamer you are: if you're one of those "hardcore" gamers that do nothing but spend their time gaming on the internet, then maybe you should consider it a bit more but, if you don't spend all your time playing games then buying more RAM would be the cheaper better option.I can honestly say though that games do run a little smoother on XP. Not by much if you have the recommended RAM but slightly noticeable.But if you choose to upgrade to XP, you should also consider spending the money on the new Windows 7 when they cut the throat off XP and stop its support.May not be such a big help here as I've stated reasons for and against both that you may consider but they are usually what people think about when I read this type of question on the internet.
