Admin password problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As admin, I never had a password (Blank, i just hit ENTER to log on to windows). I was playing around in SECURITY settings and was given suggestion (by Windows) that it is best if I had a password. I stupidly put 16 characters and it got accepted. Upon restart, I couldn't log on because the password has a maximum of 11 characters. I now can't reset as I can only get to Windows as GUEST. How do I get out of this mess?

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

We do not normally give support here with Windows password issues. However, yours seems to be quite a special case - having in good faith set a 16-character password, but only allowed 11 characters to sign in.

I don't have the answer for you, but I may do some research later on.

P.S. what is your Windows version?

I dealt with a similar problem in W98.

The way we got round that was to put in either (don't remember now) the first part of the password (first eleven in your case) or it may have been the last eleven ignoring the first part - if you follow.

May not work in your case but, nothing to lose.
