XP Desktop - icon title display

Hi,

I don't know how this happened but one day it was just like it! The titles of the icons on my desktop are showing the background (a white box around the text) I can change the colour of the box by changing the desktop colour or appearance colour scheme in the control panel but i can't get the box to become transparent. I've also checked pretty much every setting in the control panel and restarted my computer and downloaded all updates. I've also set everything i came across back to default and am midway through a spyware virus check. (we have Sophos antivirus on our machines).

I was advised to download TuneUp, and did so. I did all the repairs and maintenance that it suggested but no help. I found a tickbox in TuneUp System Control called 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' with the description 'When this option is enabled the background of the icon titles on the desktop is transparent and the text is slightly shadowed'. This is what i want to happen but i applied the setting with the box ticked and then unticked and it made no difference.

I've attached a screen shot of my desktop and of the tickbox in TuneUp.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

Kate
