Stingray89
Hello,I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 and am about to upgrade to Windows 7. I want to know if I can backup my XP installation directory (C:\I386) to a CD-R (since my laptop came pre-built with XP and didn't include the cd) and run the winnt32.exe file from the CD if I ever needed to downgrade. I have the product key. Thanks
-pops-
There is more to XP than I386 so doing what you suggest will not give the required result. You seem to be making this very complex when all you need to do is make a full system backup on to a DVD or separate hard drive. Then again, if you want to do a fresh install, and as you have the product key, you could borrow an XP disk and install from that. That method is perfectly legal as it is the license you paid for, not the physical disk. If you take that approach, ensure the disk is the same version of the O/S as the product key.
