xuesheng
Not long ago, I saw a message saying that the Personal Firewall in my anti-virus program, Trend Micro Internet Security, was turned off, and I should turn it back on or else reboot. I tried to turn it back on but failed, so I rebooted. Now when the Windows desktop opens, the icons appear, and the hourglass just hangs; it's been hanging there for over 30 minutes. I can't alt-ctr-del doesn't bring up the Task Manager, and the Start menu is unresponsive. The only way to turn it off might be to pull the plug. What can I do? Alan2273
can you get into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at start up, if so and you are using XP, try a system restore to a previous time when everything weas OK.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
The only way to turn it off might be to pull the plug. What can I do?If you cannot shut it down normally, press the Power button for some 30 seconds to turn it off; this is still better than pulling the plug! After that, try again, and if it still doesn't bring up Windows, try the method Allan suggested in the earlier post, or try booting into 'Last Known Good Configuration'.
