Can't connect to E-Mail

I've installed a Trendnet wireless router and it works to some extent.

To some extent I can surf the internet but I can't get to my Windows MSN e-mail.

I enter my user name & password & it just wont make the connection.

For some sites, I can get to various levels & then it wont go beyond that.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to make it work properly.

Many thanks,

Michael

Hi,

I just get an Explorer screen display that says "Internet Explorer cannot display this web page." & there is a diagnostic option.

When I execute the diagnostic it tells me:

"Impossible to connect with login.live(an IP address)

The diagnostic sent a Ping command to the host network but did not receive a response." and it gives an option to reinitialize the network card.

When I execute this option, I get:

"Reinitialization of the network card has been done but there still appears to be a problem."

Then it tries the diagnostic again and gives me back the original diagnostic message noted above.

Tks,

Michael

If you can connect to any other website(s), then I suspect that MSN mail (or live.com) is down or malfunctioning. Can you login at https://login.live.com/?

Also, what is your Windows and IE version?

Hi Doraemon!

I don't think MSN nor Live.com are down because as soon as I connect my cable (instead of wireless) I get the connection.

Also, I can get https://login.live.com/ but from there, after my username & password it tries to connect to https://login.live.com/ppsecure/post.srf....

I have Windows Vista Family Premium Edition 2007 MicroSoft Service Pack 2

and IE is 8.0.6001.18828

Tks

Michael

P.S. I've log-in to your site with wireless & am sending with wireless.

That is rather strange! Could it be that the wireless connection is much slower than the wired connection?

Anyway, when I log in through https://login.live.com/ I am redirected to https://account.live.com/SummaryPage.aspx?m...700&lc=1033...?

Yes it is strange.

My wireless speed is 54.0 MBytes/sec. I don't think that's slow & besides that I can connect to your site & others without problems. Also, if it were slow, I would expect that the connection for e-mail might take longer but it would connect.

My wire speed is (I believe but can't check it now) 100 MBytes/sec. This is faster but I still believe connection with wireless would still take place at 54.0 MBytes/s although perhaps longer to make.

I am able to connect to your site & others with wireless without problems, so why not e-mail? It seems as if there is a paramater/setting somewhere which is telling e-mail to connect via a wire connection.

I hope you guys wont forget me - I only have one more week to solve this problem.

Many thanks,

Michael

Here is somemore interesting info:

I can easily get to:

http://www4.bmo.com/mutualfund_navigator/0...598_0_2,00.html

but I can't get to:

https://www1.bmo.com/cgi-bin/netbnx/NBmain?product=1

which is the same outfit and I'm sure the same server as the one above.

Also can't get to this one:

https://gateway.bmonesbittburns.com/en/SignIn.html

The first one only provides info. The other two, once you get to them, require the entry of 'username' and password - therefore I presume more secure sites.

Could it be that the my problem has something to do with security levels of the sites?

Tks

Michael

http vs. https - that's an interesting observation. I don't know what to make of it; hopefully someone else does.

I've found some guys who have the same problem but unfortunately no solution other than to change wireless facility/company.

However they have confirmed that it is a problem with connecting to secure sites only and that TrendNets's sofware is the problem.
