Can You Watch Mp2 Video?

Recommended Posts

my PC is coming up to 3 years old, it has an ATi all-in-wonder, and over that time I have amased several GB's of recorded TV (music vids, comedy etc..)

trouble is they only play for me in winME, if i boot into 98/XP they dont work.

so what are the chances that my next PC will play them,

id like to upload a 10MB/30 second clip, for others to try.(have my own webspace)

mp2 seems a peculiar format, although i can watch the clips in WMP, but WMM (movie-maker) thinks its audio, so i cannot edit.

so anyway before i upload a clip, can someone advise me if this is an OK thing to do, i was thinking about copyright issue's, maybe 30 seconds of the BBC headlines.

TIA.

not to worry,

like mp3, its a form of MPEG 1, and as mentioned, i cant get them to play on my own PC, other than in winME,

problem being that ATi have removed the older drivers from their site, which may of allowed me to watch them on win98,

my winME installation is from 'recovery discs' which include the old drivers,

i'd just like to get an idea if the newer PC's can play it,(latest ATi/geforce)

the only other PC i've tried was with an ATi 8500 with 98/XP, but that doesn't play them correctly.

could i post a link?

sorry for the delay in replying,

i have uploaded a tv clip, but had to so several times and have exceeded my bandwidth (i think) for now,

now get this, im new to win98, but within it, when you check the properties of a file it shows the MS-DOS filename,

when i upload an mp2 file (MS-DOS filename onlyfo~1.mp2) it downloads as a an mpeg file (MS-DOS filename onlyfo~1.mpe)

the altered file is then accepted by nero as video, where the original wouldn't.

displaying 'file extensions' and altering file type doesn't have the same effect, the new file crashes nero!

i have had DVD burners for ages now, and have software that edit MPEG2, but they dont except these mp2 files, this is why i think the filetype is something other.

any way here's the page that has the file TV clip (within a zip file to remain as .mp2)

let me know if it plays correctly in WMP, and possibly if it opens in movie-maker and nero/roxio etc, and what Gfx card you have, thanks.

thanks powerless,

i hope it is just a driver problem for me with 98/XP, as you have the same result as my winME, are you sure the sound was OK, it can play a little quick (about 10% too fast) and the voices are a bit high (win98).

do you have nero/roxio, a program that would convert to VCD/SVCD/DVD, and does it recognise the file as video?
