Windowsfanski
This is a good refresher to reflect on for and hopefully prevent next time it might happen: When CompUSA was still in biz I bought an ATI X700 pro = 512mb card. It was $100 off and I thought hell yes I've been waiting for over a year to upgrade. This "mid class" card actually is the one that remained below that by one notch that made it a low class able to run Far Cry and HalfLife2. Most of the games I have can be run on the old Windows 98 with Dx 9.0c. Of course most new games were low MB games that simply cut off 98 and didn't require a card more advanced than the one on the 98. After Far Cry most shooter games were going Xp/Vista cutting off Windows 2000. But most XP/Vista games require a card at least ATI X800 for at least a few years now and most recently some games have higher Ghz CPU speed at 2.8Ghz. I'm not sure how I would have predicted that I should go one level higher even if it cost a bit or a lot more. With that sale going on it seems they knew. But for a lot of games the ATI X700 pro was not even half as capable as X800 because of the number of new games cutting off the 700 model. I feel like I'm getting worked a bit too. It turns out this one card, x700 pro, was hyped with FarCry and Halflife2. Max Payne works on the 98 just fine, AVP too. The X700 was just a Far Cry and HL2 video card basically, that appeared to be solid mid class. Sometimes its choppy on big Far Cry Mods. I will check it out and see if it's possible to predict but at this point?
MANEMAN
Hmmm........ Who'd a guessed it eh ?Just goes to show that you cannot predict the market with software/hardware, or electronics.Keep the WD40 handy, make sure the old stuff keeps running eh ?Thanks for that.
