low volume on Acer Aspire 5536 laptop?

I thought the sound level of all laptops was low - compared with what is available on a desktop or with a separate sound system.

I believe this low level is deliberate so as not to disturb people when these machines are used in public places (aircraft, departure lounges, trains and suchlike).

You could add an external speaker system/amplifier if you want to but be careful you don't incur the wrath of others who might be within hearing distance and not wish to hear whatever you want to be listening to. Also, there is almost invariably a headphone socket available.

I'm a desktop user in the main and something of a newcomer to laptops but I notice on my HP machine that the sound, as well as being low, is very directional and more or less matches the viewing angle of the screen, tailing off rapidly on moving side to side out of viewing range.
