dc2000
I got a new laptop with Windows 7 and downloaded the Windows Live Movie Maker. I really like that program except that it doesn't open my .mov files that come out of my digital camera. (I tried to contact Nikon but received a standard response to use their software instead.)I know that Windows Live Movie Maker can open .mov files because it does on my old XP machine, but unfortunately I've installed so many codecs there that it's impossible to figure out which one works with .mov files.I also installed the Apple Quicktime on this laptop and it can play .mov files alright, but it still doesn't help with opening them in Windows Live Movie Maker. Can someone suggest how fix this? AlanHo
The .mov format is an Apple standard. I assume Microsoft are reluctant to support a format originated by their rivalI save the .mov file onto my hard drive and then use a video converter to convert the file to avi or mpeg which WMM will accept.I happen to use Need4 Video Converter which was free when I downloaded it a few months ago - but there are many freeware programs you can Google for. Do be careful though - some sites offering free downloads carry malware - I use WOT to weed them out.

It works on my other computer. I also agree that it's possible to convert to wmv or avi but first it takes time and second the quality is normally lost at such convertion, plus the mov format is better than wmv.Any ideas about the codec I might be missing???
