Have windows XP Media. And all of the sudden my computer das not recognize my DVD drive any longer .(When I insert disc, there is no longer a prompt.Cannot burn CD's cannot install new programs ,nothing.)

I noticed that The icon for CD/Drive does not show anymore in Control Panel>System .(uninstalled itself?)

The only thing I can assume,I did subscribe to Carbonite Data back up and Carbonite backup drive icon is showing under COntrol Panel>System.

I contacted them and ask if their program is conflicting with my DVD/CD drive, but they said it is not a Carbonite problem. Not much help there.

How can I get my DVD/CD Drive up again ?

I also ran the windows FIX it program, but windows explorer shuts that down as unsafe! Go figure, windows won't let windows fix itself.

Thank you , would really appreciate help.

Have you checked that it's showing in the BIOS? if it does go to add and remove and uninstall the drive reboot the computer should find it by default, check the cables on the drive are not loose and the MOBO connection is ok.

I ckecked everything and finally the cable connections ! Not sure how, but they were actually loose !

Fixed it and the drive is running again.

Thanks very much Everyone for helping
