Same copy of windows 7 installed on new computer once old one has died

Hi,

So when I bought my laptop it came with Vista but a free upgrade to windows 7 once it was released, which was sent to my home address where it awaits my return. But the thing is I don't actually use Windows, the PC is currently dual booted but I've no need to go near Vista.

On the other hand my mother uses Vista every day. You can see where I'm going with this!

Obviously it would be better for her to have 7 (once I verify her computer can handle 64 bit)

so this would be a no brainer if not for one thing.. Her computer is a HP Pavillion, the same as my aunts and millions of other people's, that particular model had a faulty brand of nVidia graphics card which melted when the laptop overheated and caused the whole laptop to stop working, i've seen this happen, luckily it happened to my aunt while the laptop was still under Irish government 2 year warranty for inherit flaws but time is up for mom's one now. So although HP have apologised and issued a bios update to keep the fan running high every second the computer is on, it really seems just a matter of time before it stops working,

So the questions are

Will the registration of the new copy of windows 7 render the Vista on my computer illegal/unregistered and result in me not being able to use it should I want to

Should the Pavillion stop working the day after Windows7 is installed and registered, would that be it for life? Or would I be able to still use that disk to upgrade another vista computer?

To the best of my knowledge the "free" Windows 7 upgrades offered by HP (and possibly other makers) are specific for the machines for which the offer was made - that is not transferable.

The reason I say this is because a friend asked me to install an HPW7 upgrade to different computer and it failed.

I think mom's computer couldn't run the 64bit properly anyway so it doesn't matter.

Point of information: My free upgrade is from Dell, probably doesn't make a difference.
