powder21 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Share Posted February 8, 2010 Hi. I was researching the integration of service packs in Vista to see if such a process modified the .wim files. I believe I have found that it does. However, my question is far more basic (and probably stupid). I came across some interesting information. MS apparently states in MANY different places that SP1 must be installed before installing SP2. Since I have yet to install SP2 on a customer's machine, I would very much like to ascertain definitively whether or not this is correct from someone who has had real world experience installing SP2 (I pretty much just skipped Vista entirely and now I'm having to learn a few things for the customer's benefit). I noticed that MS also stated officially in MANY different places that installation of SP3 in XP required that both SP1 and SP2 be installed previously. Which I never knew before now and is apparently untrue since I've been installing SP3 on machines with neither SP1 or SP2 installed (for a very long time and without issue I might add). This is why I am not so trusting when it comes to what MS is telling me here.So...If I'm installing SP2 on a Vista machine that does not yet have SP1 installed, do I need to install SP1 first? Also, if that is the case, will I need to integrate both SP1 AND SP2 when creating an integrated disk? Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated. (Still contradictory perhaps ? )I haven't got time at the moment to search out all of my old stuff to be able to advise you, but I do know that because the whole set up of NLite/VLite deals with the correct chronological order of Service Packs for slipstreaming, that the answers you require are there.Take a shovel, head towards their Forum, start digging around. I have since discovered from other research (and help in other forums) that SP1 definitely needs to be installed before SP2 and that both would need to be integrated into a single installation. However, the links you posted will no doubt be very helpful in my current endeavor to create my own all-in-one installer with both x86 and x64 editions and service packs.
