poor_user Posted March 18, 2010 Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 Hi all!I have a serious problem so any help would be great.Because of using my computer for commercial purposes, I am not allowed to have my OS unlicensed. Well, as we all know, windows needs to be reformatted after some time especially if you don't have so powerful configuration. Guess what! I reformatted my windows, and computer is running just as in the beginning but because my original windows xp install cd was damaged, I had to download a version from torrent. But now, my original key that I got with my windows xp cd is not working.I had to enter illegal key that I found on the internet but if inspection come and check my installed windows xp key I will have to pay fine even though I own perfectly legal OS...How can I get my key working again and replace it with currently installed one?Thanks in advance!p.s. -pops- Posted March 18, 2010 Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 The entire problem you are experiencing lies in the fact that you downloaded a (most likely) illegal version of Windows via the torrent. This is exacerbated by installing an illegal product key.The legal, and much less involved, way to have done this would have been to find someone with a genuine copy of the same version of Window for which you have the original key and use that for your install. And formatting is a bit risky because I have lots of important data.Is there any official download version on Microsoft official site?What would you say about this software link ?I am sorry if I bother you. There is 0800 number that I'm going to call tomorrow to contact Microsoft. Maybe they will know a solution without another installation. I have my Windows XP since 2002, and I never had any need to reinstall Windows.What more, since you are using your system "for commercial purposes" and "have lots of important data", I am sure you do regular backups, which can be restored if something catastrophic would unexpectedly happen.
