cccpms6 Posted March 24, 2010 Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 I am having problems reseting windows to factory settings. I am trying to restore windows. Basically I had 2 hard drives installed on this computer which is a dell 8400 running windows xp professional. I removed the second drive I installed because I do not want it to get erased. I am just trying to reset the c drive and clear everything off of it. I followed the instructions in the manual. I put in the operating system cd. I restart windows and hit f12 right away, than i select the cd-rom one and go to the windows setup page. Once the menu comes up on what I want to do I hit enter which is for intalling windows. There is also a selection for r which is the recovery one. After I hit enter I get an error saying that there is not hard drive configured or something.I've gone into the system setup and turned off the second drive that I installed and took out before I tried to reset windows.Could someone help me, I would really appreciate it. I let it stand for a little with the internet connected and now the bottom task bar which is usually blue has turned white. Something called the XP defender pro has been popping up often saying that there are viruses but after scanning it with panda antivirus it didnt find anything. But once again if anyone knows why the computer isn't recognizing the drive I would appreciate it. I really need that computer up and running. -pops- Posted March 24, 2010 Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 Have a look at http://www.myantispyware.com/2010/01/28/how-to-remove-xp-internet-security-2010-xp-guardian-antivirus-xp-2010/My own thoughts are: place the hard drive into another computer and carry out a full format - preferably a low level format to remove all previous data. By doing this, you will remove the rogue antispyware at the same time. You should then be able to re-install Windows as if it were a new machine.
