YoungK24 Posted April 13, 2010 Report Share Posted April 13, 2010 I need help with installing XP home all over again. First of all i just got a computer, Dell dimension 9100 its like 5 yrs old. Now the HDD was missing so i went out and bought one, its a SATA disk. conected and redy to install then some problems ocured.After setting in the xp disc blue screen appears telling me that windows is about to install, then later on i get a STOP CODE.It goes like this, *** STOP: 0X0000008E (OXCOOOOOO5, OXF74149A8,, 0XF6FD075C, 0X00000000)*** SETUPDD.SYS - ADDRESS F74149A8 BASE AT F73ED000, DATESTAMP 48025277It also tels me to change video card if mentioned in stop message and also that i might look for bios update. Now, the BIOS version is A01 and a newer one is available at dell web site for driver downloads, but the thing is how do i install it on the pc when it doesnt hav a OS running?Anyway, i would appriciate help a lot. I dont know what any of those codes means, and i have not touched the computer, all original parts are inside besides the new hdd. Is there a way to update the bios on a pc without the OS installed? there is no floppy disc on it, so i thought it might work with usb stick. So the only problem is how do i get to DOS so i can write... or i dont even know if there is a dos on a machine without a OS installed... im kinda walking in the dark right here... YoungK24 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Share Posted April 14, 2010 I also se that the hdd i installed is missing the "jumper" on it, like it is not set to be the master drive. but its the only hdd installed. It did not have anything with memory or disks, i just had to svitch the RAID settings in bios in order to work. Now its running. I just need to download some more new drivers and figure out how to make the internet work. Looks like the old user used a modem while im running broadband... There is a network card witch i conected to a network cable that goes into my router. but i cant get on the internett that way or am i doing something wrong?
