Laptop fan runs wild for first 5 min

Hello,

I have this problem where after I boot to the desktop, a (or several) fans in my laptop start spinning as if a heavy process is occurring. This lasts about 5 minutes. Oddly, the CPUs are both running at about 5-10% and the memory usage is ~400mb which is the stable usage that doesn't change if I leave the laptop on for 2 hours. So, in other words, nothing is happening but the fans are spinning like mad.

I've tested it on several operating systems:

No probem: Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP

Problem: Ubuntu 9.10+, Windows Vista and Windows 7

This is the model of my laptop.

Sounds like it is overheating ?

Have you made sure all the cooling vents underneath and on the sides are not blocked and are free from dust/fluff ?
