MAC address

I'm putting together a used system for my stepson.

Using WinXP Home, I Start-->Run-->cmd-->ipconfig/all and I get a physical address (MAC address) of all FF's. Yesterday when things were working well, I had a more realistic looking MAC address (seemingly random hex). I don't think a MAC address is supposed to change. Any clues what my problem might be?

Do you have an actual problem with the machine or are you just looking in places that might be better left unseen?

In many, many years of using computers I have never found it necessary to look where you are looking.

Are the figures you're seeing the MAC address or something else?
