Running scheduled task for multiple users while they're logged off

So I need to run Defrag on 30+ machines on our network, the last thing I want to do is have to schedule times with all of these users so that I can run a defrag on there machine manually. I would like a way to run defrag on their machines at a set time while they are logged off at night. I tried this through scheduled task but it will only work if the user is logged on. Is there any way I can set this up? Could I do it as a group policy?

You could solve the problem very easily without scheduled defrags, - and on the cheap too. :)

Obviously there are more professional defraggers out there, - but they cost money. :(

In the energy concious times in which we find ourselves it is perhaps more responsible to have an on-going defrag that is happening in working "Real" time rather than 30+ computers running and pushing up the much talked about "Carbon Footprint" during the night.

If there is no real need to have in excess of 30 computers running at night you are going to save yourself, or your employer a heck of a lot of money in electricity bills. ;)

The NTFS file system is much more accepting of a bit of defragmentation than was FAT32

I mention this just because you ommited to mention the Operating Systems or File type Systems that you are running.

They're all NTFS running 7. I need to run the defrag because we are migrating everything from Symantec Ghost to Persystent. There is an issue with Persystent where if you have data existing in the highest cluster of the hard drive is cannot create its needed migration cache. Simply put, a Defrag fixes this.

This really isn't my project, but I've been tasked to continue it while the guy who is in charge of this project is on vacation.
