DxDiag- DirectDraw & Direct3D not available.

Recommended Posts

I have absolutely no clue how this happened. I tried downloading everything on microsoft.com to fix the problem and nothing has worked. Still says not available for all three of the DirectX features. I was just wondering what a technician from microsoft would do and if it is something i can attempt. If it is, and somebody who reads this can tell me how to do it, i would be very thankful. My computer will not let me play any video game or read disks. Any help AT ALL will be helpful. Thanks.

Hi there, and welcome.

Whatever operating system you are using and on whatever computer you have.

Can you get back to a time before this problem occured by using "System Restore" ?

John.

Actually, I cannot get to a time when directx was working. I have Windows Vista home basic. I recently restored my computer to factory default and I cannot restore the computer to a time before.

Try running a DirectX uninstaller to clean things up and then start again.

**Download Uninstaller Here** ( Free Software)

Original Vista (Which is what you've got now by going back to factory default) was shipped with a version of DirectX especially for Vista. (Gotta love Microsoft. )

After SP1 (Service pack one) I think it would accept different types. Make sure you have SP1, and do all the updates from Microsoft, taking notice of the non-critical updates for software/hardware that may be available to you.

Once you've got the uninstaller, you can play around to your hearts content downloading versions of DirectX and then installing/uninstalling until you get one that works with your system and video card.

Hope this is of some help Bob.

John.
