When I am using the internet, how do I control which folder is open when I search the file that I want to upload or folder that I want to save a file to? It seems to always be the last one that was opened, but I want it to default to my desktop.

It is usual, when you have told the computer to "save file", for the pop up screen to ask you where you want to save it. I think the last one you opened is there as a suggestion only and there should be some means of navigating to your desired folder. You do not say which OS you are using so I can not give you definative answer, although they all work much the same way.

It depends what utility your using to download the file with. With IE's download function, towards the bottom of the download window there should be a long box with a little down-pointing arrow on the right side. By pressing on the arrow you should get other options to save the file to other locations.

If you're using Firefox or some other browser or a download manager like FDM you usually have to set the download location within the utility itself. Look for something like Options within the program when you are not using it. After that they usually just start downloading, then when they finish, they just shut & don't tell you where the damn thing is! Sometimes I've spent more time searching for a "lost" download, than I did downloading the wretched thing in the first place.

Some programs set up their own download file without telling you and you can end up with 5 or 6 folders all called Download scattered all over the hard drive. To see if you've got more than one, use your computer Search box to look for files called download.
