USB mass stroage problems.

I have a Dell XPS Studio 9000, core i7, 12g of Ram. I have two HP USB printers. One photosmart C4750 installed using HP Software. The other an HP Photosmaft 8250 installed using drivers supplied with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. With both printers installed, Thumb drives will not work. When checking using Divice manager the thumb drive shows a warning Code 10 fail to start. If I uninstll and reinstall the mass storage device and the printers using all the methods I can think of, The printer reinstall fine but the USB mass stroage fails to install. With both printers disconnected from the computer the thumb drive works as advertized. I'd really like to use both printers anyone have any Ideas for a solution.

I assume that each of the USB connections is made to the main motherboard source.

You could try installing an additional PCI card with USB sockets and use this for your thumb drive. These cards are very low cost and have up to five connectors (four external, one internal).

I don't think this would solve the problem as I have 4 open USB ports on the front of the machine. The problem occures when the Computer "sees" the mass storage that is internal to the printers. It's as though usbstor.sys is taken over by the printers and nothing else can use this driver as long as there is a printer connected.

By using a separate PCI card you will have independent USB driver hardware which may well not be influenced by the similar hardware already on the motherboard and used by the currently installed printers etc.
