Toshiba Laptop Restore Problem

I have a Toshiba Protege m400 with Vista Business running on it having some serious issues and I need help.

I went to do a system restore to an earlier point and it was taking way longer than usual. I left it going and came back to it and it seemed stalled. I gave it more time, and it still did not restore. The computer wouldn't shut off, so I removed the battery and unplug it. Then I started the computer back up. I got an error screen saying that the computer couldn't boot.

I can get to the boot selection screen. I can get into the BIOS and it is all fine there. I can boot from disk and load up a windows install screen. When it gets to that point and windows tries to find a partition to install too, it gives me an error message saying that it cannot load mass storage drivers.

What do I do to fix this? I can't seem to find any answers and any drivers I hunt down don't seem to be the right ones.

Thanks

Nate

Hi,Najo.Welcome to Windows Forum.

I had a similar issue some time ago which was caused by a security suite I had installed.I couldn't use restore options and various drivers were disabled.I am not saying that this is the root of your problem but perhaps worth a look.

What AV/AM are you using and have you tried disabling it ?

I take it that you do not have any disk images from which to recover from?

Have you tried to repair your computer in advanced boot options?

Have you tried cheking the disk for errors?

Have you tried sfc/scannow?

Have you tried repair install?

How do you feel about a fresh install if all else fails?

It is not the AV/AM. I actually took out the hard drive and replaced it with a larger newer harddrive. At this point I am trying to install a clean copy of windows, but it is still giving me the error. Something is wrong on a deeper level. I tried updating the BIOS, and it was successful. The BIOS can see the harddrive.

So the issue of administrative rights is sorted then?
