Network key problems

Windows keeps resetting my network key so I can't connect to a Wireless network

The network is one that previously had worked fine; however, some time away meant I used a new network and key - now Windows will not revert to the old one.

I have tried resetting all my wireless network settings, removing them all and restarting the computer and resetting all connections from blank but windows insists on replacing the network key I input with the one I used while away

I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows ME. I have tried to use the laptop's Config Free settings to overcome the problem with Windows variously enabled/ disabled, re-enabled part way through. But nothing changes that the Network key that windows reverts to is the one used while away, even though I have manually re-entered this through advanced settings etc.

Please act now to avoid the senseless destruction of an otherwise functional laptop.

Problem unresolved

We had thought it was my Orange livebox that needed to be reset for my laptop to establish an internet connection. It did work but then the original problem occurred again: Network key is reset to a previous password which however many times we correct has no effect. We are back to thinking it is a laptop issue and so would like some help!

I would think it is more likely to be an ME problem ?

What sort of wireless device are you using ? - USB or PCMCIA ?

Can you try booting it from a Linux Live CD e.g. Mint and see if the wireless works OK with that ?

I have no idea what can be done to rectify this.

I might suggest backing up all data to an external device and reinstalling your OS on a clean HD.
