when i use my pc it works fine but when i leave it for a couple hours and come back the icons will not open the programs assocciated with them. i have a brand new dell like 5 months old. this problem has been happening for about 3 of those 5 months. i have 2 computers that use the same system and the second computer is a rebuilt machine and it works fine. i can leave it on without any use for days and it works first time. the problem happens this way. i turn on my pc from the off position and it boots and works great then when i am done i leave it on and come back in several hours to do some more surfing or what ever and nothing works. i have to manually reboot the machine to get it to work. start, shutdown, turn off pc doesn't even work. when it boots back up it works fine. the power settings are identical to the other computer. the os is actually the same disc. and it works better than the new one. this is pissing me off. dell won't even comment on it plus their web site for forums is a piece of s&*#. you members here have helped me before so i ask for help again. any ideas.

james.

I don't know your legal rights in the USA (where I understand you are located) but, in the UK you would reject the machine under the Sale of Goods Act as being unfit for purpose and get a refund of your money or a replacement machine.

As andsome says, though, you ought to have rejected the machine when the fault first became apparent
