When I rebooted, I got a "safe" type screen with two messages"Proceed normally" or "delete previous file versions". The second was highlighted and I hit "enter". I worked normally in the computer and the next day, when i turned it on again I found out that everything I did the day before was not saved at all. Not even the "recent files" history. The problem occurred on Oct. 12 and since that date every time I log in I have a computer which is the same of Oct. 12. It does not show any activity I did the day before. Even Outlook will download all messages since Oct 12 even though I deleted them on Oct 13, 14, 15.I think that, maybe, I have to click somewhere to "restore files" or "keep previous versions". Dunno. He exAmined it and said that maybe it would take too much time to figure out what should be done. The easiest way out was to reinstall everything. And I would lose my files and programs... I can't get used to the idea that I will have to reinstall everrything again. It was so difficult to have the printer working with the new Windows 7 (although it was a brand new HP Wireless PhotoSmart). Then, I will have to contact the owners of all the installed programs to get new codes. In the meantime, I save everything to a pendrive but this is not an ideal solution... Remember, no histories, repeated e-mails, etc. (within one month I will have an enormous volume of repeated e-mails)... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
-pops- Posted October 16, 2010 Report Share Posted October 16, 2010 A full system backup or image of your hard drive should be at the top of every computer user's priorities.A lot of regulars here - a lot of people everywhere - use Acronis. Used properly and regularly, a full system backup can save an awful lot of heartache and anguish. Windows has its own backup program included with it, if you prefer that.To re-install a full operating system with all its added software from a backup is the work of an hour or so, perhaps even less. Anyway, I saved all my files in DVDs, saved a picture of my screen, printed all software contacts to ask for new codes and I'm just gathering the courage to do it.I tried the forum just as a last resort - do anything like a tick - and have everything as before.
